The theatre cast and crew at Brandon Hall School in Atlanta are proud to announce their first place win at the Georgia Independent School Association One Act (GISA) Class AA State One-Act Play Competition, held on November 16, 2016 at Southeastern Technical College in Vidalia, Georgia. Their production of Almost, Maine was performed alongside seven other schools throughout Georgia. The state championship comes one week after winning the Class AA Regional Competition held on November 9.
Under the direction of Ms. Erin Greenway, Department Chair of Fine Arts, the performers had a lot to be proud of. “One of the best moments was the anticipation right before our names were called,” Greenway said. “I loved watching the kids jump out of their seats in excitement, and seeing them collect their award onstage as an ensemble. The kids were crying tears of joy.”
Hannah Baird, who has been performing with Brandon Hall for five years, is no stranger to the stage. As a senior, her GISA competitions have now come to a close, but she was determined to make this one count. “Being on stage through the years has given me a confidence that I never would have achieved anywhere else,” she said. Baird received special recognition at the Regional and State level, as she earned an award for Best Performance at both competitions.
The cast and crew won a number of additional awards at both the Regional and State Levels. Senior Tyler Leon earned a Best Performance award at Regionals, and received an Honorable Mention for his performance at State. The entire scenic design crew received a number of awards, Most Creative at Regionals, and Best Set at State. Sophomore Ashley Lingle received an Honorable Mention at the Regional level for her performance as the Waitress.
Future Brandon Hall theatre productions for the 2016-2017 school year include She Kills Monsters and Little Shop of Horrors.
